Last time we talked about making a difference in your life.
Today we’ll talk about firing others with your vision.
Years ago, a visionary editor fired me with his vision.
He dreamed of making a good newspaper a great one.
He wasn’t satisified with just a good newspaper.
I had worked with other talented editors.
None of them had a dream as big and powerful as his.
One day he suffered a major stroke, collapsed and died.
His vision and his dream did not survive him.
With his death, the wind went out of the place.
The ship lay dead in the water. No wind whipped its sails.
Fine men, but men with lesser dreams, took the helm.
They lacked vision. They saw a paycheck, not a purpose.
They were timid. Their lack of vision frustrated me.
I left for open water, for the chance to succeed or fail.
That experience taught me people need a vision.
You know my vision: $200 million for literacy and learning.
We will achieve it over the next 10 years.
Large and powerful dreams will excite others to join you.
